Calling for nominations for Management Committee

Yes, looking forward to the AGM on 23rd March at 5.00 pm at the Hall!

For those of you who comprendez AGMs, you will know that all Management Committee positions become vacant at the AGM, and we elect a new lot. Unlike Russia where the leader of the State gets continually re-elected.

Here is a notice of the AGM (PDF document), and a Committee Nomination form (PDF document) if anyone wants to nominate anyone else.  Go on be enthusiastic. You may have something to offer.  If you’ve always wondered what all this committeee business is all about, now is the time to find out, with a caring, supportive group who can mentor you through the vagaries of stuff.

Ideally, the form should be in writing, signed by two nominators, and signed by the nominee themself that they accept the nomination.  You can print out the form, fill it in, scan and send it back; or just email your nomination to gheerullahall1@gmail.com and I will sort out the rest.  You can also nominate yourself, if you wish, and I’ll take care of the rest.

A list of the nominees will be displayed at the hall for 7 days prior to the meeting.  If you’re thinking being on the committee is too onerous, technically we only to meet every four months, which is not that onerous.  And we can include inducements of the imbibing kind?

There will be drinky-poos and delicacies afterwards.  And scintillating company. Tell me if you want to bring a plate.

You can even follow etiquette and RSVP.

Yours,

Pollyanna

(Apologies from Miriam who forgot to post this nearly a week ago.)

Memberships due and other stuff

Many greetings to all you afficionados of Gheerulla Hall.

1. Looming AGM

It’s that fun time of year again, where we look forward to the horizon of the AGM. To this end, this is a reminder that Membership fees of the Hall are now due. For a measly $10 per person per year, you become a supporter of the Hall, are kept posted of activities, get to read this exclusive missive, and have the right to vote. (All genders, all proclivities. Better than Citizenship). As the membership fees are an important base of the hall financials, and membership a leverage for grant funding, the more the merrier. The sooner you can attend to this the better, so I have all the receipts and stuff up-to-date. Like all good We have many ways of receiving your money, be it by

  • direct deposit to the Westpac account below;
  • cash;
  • cheque;
  • bitcoin?

Electronic funds transfer (EFT) – Westpac

BSB 034 175
Account 590079
Reference Last Name

Many thanks to those who’ve already paid. Your names are written in gold in the Book of Membership. Updates on the AGM and stuff will follow soon. But mark the calendar – Friday 23 March – fun will be had. A membership form is attached if you wish to alter your details. Now to other stuff.

2. Other fundraising possibilities.

If you’ve attended the odd meeting in the past you may be aware we need to raise at least $6,000 pa to keep the Hall going and cover essential expenses. (Insurance, maintenance etc.) In the past this has been achieved with fees, donations, some hall hire and fundraising events put on by the hall itself. Looking to extend these options, I have attached a letter from the Eumundi Markets regarding the Hall members doing a rostered turn at the carpark during the Eumundi Markets. The hall gets a fee. Your feedback is requested on this, particularly if you would be willing to be part of the roster. If there are not enough people to volunteer for the roster, it won’t happen anyway. Let me know if you are willing and for which dates. I have a volunteer’s handbook which I can forward on to those interested.

3. Join in the Goings-On

Remember we now have Yoga, Drumming, Line Dancing and Senior’s Exercises at the Hall, with more stuff soon to add. The programme is filling fast. Expect more details soon!

Arriverderci,
Pollyanna.

Hi Kathy,

We currently have one shift available on the Car Park. It is the 5th Wednesday of the month of which there are 4 this year:

30th May
29th August
31st October

This shift is on the Albert street gate from 7.00am – 1.00pm for a $264.00 donation to your group. Most other groups who do this shift split it in half i.e. 7.00-10.00 and 10.00-1.00 with 2 people for each. I have attached the Volunteer Handbook and the Master Roster for you to read. If you have any questions please let me know. You have the first refusal of the shift, I will not offer it to any other groups until you have had the opportunity to present it to the committee and members and have reached a decision.

Australia Day Chill out at the Hall, Memberships due, and What’s On

Hello all and welcome to 2018!

Yes, it’s time to kickstart the New Year at the Hall in a relaxed way.  So –

Australia Day Evening Chill Out

Friday 26th January, from 5 pm
All members are invited to join the committee for a relaxed evening.   BBQs will be available to use (BYO food), beverages available for purchase, and light informal games.  As the weather may be hot during the day, we’ll keep largely inside – cards, darts, table tennis, Wasgijs, any game you like.  (Not toooo rude, though.) This is a very informal get together.  RSVP if you can so I know how many cups to wash.

It’s also a chance to christen our new ramp currently under construction.  (With a small G&T deck for yours truly.)  We’ve come a long way in the last year.  Activities at the Hall are expanding, with proposals for ukulele/music, book club, film club? Drumming, computer sessions, and Seniors Fitness, to be added to the existing pantheon of Yoga, line dancing, writers group, and occasional seminars.  (Keep a lookout for the next session on birds.)  And this is in addition to social activities.  Anyone with ideas now has an opportunity to put them into practise.  (Pole dancing, anyone?)

Membership Renewals

It being the new year, and our financial year ending in December, it’s also time for members to renew their memberships.  We carried over everyone’s membership for 2017, but this year everyone needs to renew.  At $10 per annum per adult, it’s good value, and some activities are members only.  You can pay cash, cheque or direct deposit, but not paypal or bitcoin.  Don may accept gold or shares.  Sort that out with him.  If paying directly, the bank account number is:
Westpac BSB: 034 175
Account No. 590079

Yours in a languid Australia Day (no, they wouldn’t let me call it Invasion Day).

Pollyanna

Free Yoga class Saturday 23rd December 9.30 – 10.30 am.

Gheerulla Hall has welcomed the opportunity to have regular yoga classes at the Hall. Claire Dixon has taught yoga in Melbourne and overseas, and recently began classes in Kenilworth, and now also Gheerulla. Claire’s yoga class has been very popular with many people attending more than one class a week, as they begin to feel the benefit. As thank you to the community, Claire is offering a free class open to all. No bookings required, but please bring a yoga mat if you have one, and arrive a few minutes earlier to get set up. In the busy season of Christmas, take time out to give yourself a treat!

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Cheers! and Christmas Wishes,

Pollyanna

Uke people and friends

Well, like the mythical phoenix rising from the ashes, the infamous Ukeladies, KUBE, or whatever we were most recently nomened, let us gather again before Christmas.  After all, we did gather early in the year and started with a bang, so let’s finish the year likewise.  I am suggesting that we gather on Friday 1st December  from 2.00 pm  onwards, at Gheerulla Hall, and pretend to do uke.  Our christmas flourish.  SO bring a nibble or two.  Friends welcome, (Dee – that means Tina, Pam – can you let Denise know cos her friend in Kandanga who plays uke might come, and Mim, you too) and others.  May even plan a lesson!! (Ukulele Underground has Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?!), but no guarantees – bit like any appliance purchase these days.  Or feel free to practise yourself and bring along your latest offering.  Let me know if you are interested and willing, otherwise I’ll just eat cake at home without you.  I promise Lisa and I won’t sing “Í’m growing a beard down there for Christmas”.

Ever Yours,

Esmeralda

Drum classes at Gheerulla hall?

Hi all. Thanks to Annie, I have met Ziko, who teaches drum classes on a Wednesday night in Gympie.   He teaches using djembe, dun-dun, congas, bongos and something else I can’t pronounce.  If any of you made it to the Mary River Festival on Saturday, you may have done his workshop and seen all us workshoppers perform (some rhythm which was a mix of latin american, voodoo, samba) which may have been responsible for the rain we had next day!

  • Ziko is prepared to come and teach classes every week at Gheerulla Hall, if there is enough interest. Classes usually last 1 1/2 hours for $20, minimum 10 people.  He has an hours’ drive each way to get here.
  • Day would be Tuesday evening (he teaches Monday and Wednesday elsewhere)
  • Time: start time anywhere between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm.  (i.e. 5.00 pm, 5.30 pm, or 6.00 pm)
  • Possible start dates – 21 November, or 28 November.

I urge to check out his webpage and Facebook link if you are interested.  He also makes African harps, and plays other instruments.  If you’ve always had a secret passion for African based drum music (and South American, and Cuban and the rest) then don’t let this opportunity pass.

So we can confirm with Ziko, can you respond to me if you are interested, preferably by 18 November, if we are to start on 21st.  Many thanks,

Kathy

Kenilworth bus stops at Gheerulla

In case you’re not aware, the Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce is organising a trial bus service from Kenilworth to Nambour once a week.  The important thing to note, is that it will pick up (and drop off) at Gheerulla by prior arrangement.

Currently, the bus goes on Wednesdays, departing from Kenilworth Info Centre at 10.00 am (passing Gheerulla about 10.15 / 10.20 am).  The return cost is $8.00 only, but needs to be booked a day or so earlier.  The route includes stops at the Nambour Hospital, Nambour Plaza, and Coles shops.  It departs Nambour 2.30 pm from Nambour.

Yours truly is going this Wednesday, to enjoy the delights of a sojurn in Nambour. Join me!

Kathy
