Australia Day Chill out at the Hall, Memberships due, and What’s On

Hello all and welcome to 2018!

Yes, it’s time to kickstart the New Year at the Hall in a relaxed way.  So –

Australia Day Evening Chill Out

Friday 26th January, from 5 pm
All members are invited to join the committee for a relaxed evening.   BBQs will be available to use (BYO food), beverages available for purchase, and light informal games.  As the weather may be hot during the day, we’ll keep largely inside – cards, darts, table tennis, Wasgijs, any game you like.  (Not toooo rude, though.) This is a very informal get together.  RSVP if you can so I know how many cups to wash.

It’s also a chance to christen our new ramp currently under construction.  (With a small G&T deck for yours truly.)  We’ve come a long way in the last year.  Activities at the Hall are expanding, with proposals for ukulele/music, book club, film club? Drumming, computer sessions, and Seniors Fitness, to be added to the existing pantheon of Yoga, line dancing, writers group, and occasional seminars.  (Keep a lookout for the next session on birds.)  And this is in addition to social activities.  Anyone with ideas now has an opportunity to put them into practise.  (Pole dancing, anyone?)

Membership Renewals

It being the new year, and our financial year ending in December, it’s also time for members to renew their memberships.  We carried over everyone’s membership for 2017, but this year everyone needs to renew.  At $10 per annum per adult, it’s good value, and some activities are members only.  You can pay cash, cheque or direct deposit, but not paypal or bitcoin.  Don may accept gold or shares.  Sort that out with him.  If paying directly, the bank account number is:
Westpac BSB: 034 175
Account No. 590079

Yours in a languid Australia Day (no, they wouldn’t let me call it Invasion Day).

Free Yoga class Saturday 23rd December 9.30 – 10.30 am.

Gheerulla Hall has welcomed the opportunity to have regular yoga classes at the Hall. Claire Dixon has taught yoga in Melbourne and overseas, and recently began classes in Kenilworth, and now also Gheerulla. Claire’s yoga class has been very popular with many people attending more than one class a week, as they begin to feel the benefit. As thank you to the community, Claire is offering a free class open to all. No bookings required, but please bring a yoga mat if you have one, and arrive a few minutes earlier to get set up. In the busy season of Christmas, take time out to give yourself a treat!

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Cheers! and Christmas Wishes,

Pollyanna

Uke people and friends

Well, like the mythical phoenix rising from the ashes, the infamous Ukeladies, KUBE, or whatever we were most recently nomened, let us gather again before Christmas.  After all, we did gather early in the year and started with a bang, so let’s finish the year likewise.  I am suggesting that we gather on Friday 1st December  from 2.00 pm  onwards, at Gheerulla Hall, and pretend to do uke.  Our christmas flourish.  SO bring a nibble or two.  Friends welcome, (Dee – that means Tina, Pam – can you let Denise know cos her friend in Kandanga who plays uke might come, and Mim, you too) and others.  May even plan a lesson!! (Ukulele Underground has Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?!), but no guarantees – bit like any appliance purchase these days.  Or feel free to practise yourself and bring along your latest offering.  Let me know if you are interested and willing, otherwise I’ll just eat cake at home without you.  I promise Lisa and I won’t sing “Í’m growing a beard down there for Christmas”.

Ever Yours,

Esmeralda

Drum classes at Gheerulla hall?

Hi all. Thanks to Annie, I have met Ziko, who teaches drum classes on a Wednesday night in Gympie.   He teaches using djembe, dun-dun, congas, bongos and something else I can’t pronounce.  If any of you made it to the Mary River Festival on Saturday, you may have done his workshop and seen all us workshoppers perform (some rhythm which was a mix of latin american, voodoo, samba) which may have been responsible for the rain we had next day!

  • Ziko is prepared to come and teach classes every week at Gheerulla Hall, if there is enough interest. Classes usually last 1 1/2 hours for $20, minimum 10 people.  He has an hours’ drive each way to get here.
  • Day would be Tuesday evening (he teaches Monday and Wednesday elsewhere)
  • Time: start time anywhere between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm.  (i.e. 5.00 pm, 5.30 pm, or 6.00 pm)
  • Possible start dates – 21 November, or 28 November.

I urge to check out his webpage and Facebook link if you are interested.  He also makes African harps, and plays other instruments.  If you’ve always had a secret passion for African based drum music (and South American, and Cuban and the rest) then don’t let this opportunity pass.

So we can confirm with Ziko, can you respond to me if you are interested, preferably by 18 November, if we are to start on 21st.  Many thanks,

Kathy

Kenilworth bus stops at Gheerulla

In case you’re not aware, the Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce is organising a trial bus service from Kenilworth to Nambour once a week.  The important thing to note, is that it will pick up (and drop off) at Gheerulla by prior arrangement.

Currently, the bus goes on Wednesdays, departing from Kenilworth Info Centre at 10.00 am (passing Gheerulla about 10.15 / 10.20 am).  The return cost is $8.00 only, but needs to be booked a day or so earlier.  The route includes stops at the Nambour Hospital, Nambour Plaza, and Coles shops.  It departs Nambour 2.30 pm from Nambour.

Yours truly is going this Wednesday, to enjoy the delights of a sojurn in Nambour. Join me!
