Writing Group reminder

The Writing Group will be meeting, as usual, at the hall on the 1st Wednesday of the month.

11am, Wednesday 1st August, 2018
Free (gold coin donation to the Hall is optional)

I’ll provide tea, coffee, cocoa, cup-a-soup, probably potato crisps, maybe olives or anything healthier I can think of.

Bring yourselves, any stories you might feel like reading out, your thoughts on publishing, and how to make yourself write when you don’t feel like it. Also welcome are any ideas on genres, story formatting, writing tricks and techniques, and anything else you might be interested in that is connected with writing fiction or non-fiction.

What are your thoughts on graphic novels (comicbooks)?
Is it better to plan out your story in advance or launch into an idea and see where it takes you?
What do you think about editing? Edit as you write? Edit weeks or months after you’ve finished? Get someone else to edit for you?

See you there!

Are you ready to get your hands dirty for National Tree Day??

Yes!! Only three days to National Tree Day at Gheerulla Hall!! https://treeday.planetark.org/

Yes, join a few million other people planting trees around the nation! Plant a few at Gheerulla Hall!

Feel Good.
From 10.00am

Well, we have 110 trees from Noosa Landcare, some also from Fairhill Native Nursery, and personal donations from members including a bunch of Brachychitons from Eamon. Bunnings have donated as well, the land has been ripped by Don, holes marked out, and will be dug. All we need now is a bunch of bodies to come and put them in the ground. What could be easier? And on a beautiful day, with scintillating company!

Do let us know if you can come, so your name can get on the honours roll.

And we’ll have some produce (fresh oranges, mandies and whatever) for sale. and BOOKS!!! Lots of BOOKS!!!

And if you want to bring a pot luck dish with an Indian flavour… stay on and we can share.

That’s all. See you Sunday. (RSVP if poss.)

Double dating at Gheerulla Hall

Your committee has not been sleeping. Instead, it has been planning a host of activities for your education, erudition and delight!! this is a heads up letter – each proposed event has multiple components, so keep your social diaries free, and your e-mail watches tuned for updates.

1. First up -Sunday July 29th – National Tree Day / Giant Book Sale / Pot Luck Indian lunch

1.1.  What better way to celebrate National Tree Day than to plant a tree! To get into the spirit, we will plant trees around the Hall for amenity, shade, noise reduction, bird corridors etc. We are focusing on natives, so if you have some trees in pots at home you can contribute, let us know and what they are. We will be purchasing some tube stock of selected varieties. The idea is the holes will be dug, so you can just come along, pay for your tree (approx $2-$3), and plant them and water them in. Plant one in memory of something, or someone. Tree planting from 10 am to noon. Bring trowels/gloves/watering gear if you can.

1.2.  AND there’s a Giant Book Sale. We have been given a pile of books from fiction, cook books (always popular) to technical and reference. So we are making them available at low, low prices. Like real low. A buck or two. So come early, plant a tree, then browse the books and get the bargains before the other nerds.

1.3.  AND – Mini Produce Sale. A surfeit of oranges perhaps? Chokos? Zucchinis? We have some luscious oranges and mandies, so will bring them along. But if you have other produce – jams, pickles, cakes we can have a sales table for same. Fresh home-made local stuff.

1.4.  AND – Pot luck Indian Lunch. (Divali in July?) Now after all that activity, some of us will be lunching together afterwards. I blame Lisa for this idea – she who said that sometimes she has Indian food just for the pleasure of eating lime pickle. What an excuse to have pot luck lunch with an Indian bent. This is not catered – BYO Indian style dish to share. We will have rice and the odd pickle or two. If you are not able to eat curries, bring what you like. Dance Boolywood.

SO – SUNDAY JULY 29 FROM 10 AM, FOR ALL THAT CAVORTING. REMINDERS WILL OCCUR CLOSER TO THE DATE.
