The Tennis Club is now a subcommittee of the Gheerulla Hall Association. Welcome to the new committee and all the great work you are going to contribute!

1.2 The Working Bee! Many thanks to the dozen or so volunteers that turned up for the working bee at the hall recently, armed with mowers, whipper snippers, spades, buckets and mops. We figure one or two of these a year may be enough to keep the Hall manicured. Thanks also to those mystery people who turn up when no one’s looking and complete chores unannounced. Don’t stop!

2. New Stuff Happening – and dates for diaries

2.1 Zumba starts!! Monday 18 June, 8.45 am. The committee is excited to welcome a new fitness class to the the Hall. Starting on Monday June 18, 8.45 am, Kim McRitchie will be teaching Zumba classes, so get ready for some energy burning workouts. Zumba is an exercise fitness program created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez, and involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. The choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo. Yum. Drop the kids off at school and race to the Hall, where a few weeks later you will amaze friends and family with a touche to touch – aka the famous Brazilian bum.

The Fitness classes (supported by Sunshine Coast Council) on Thursdays is also going gang busters. Ziko’s students from the African drumming classes on Tuesdays will have their first gig at the Cooran Acoustic Music night this Saturday 16 June, so come along and support Cooran Music night (with Chai and curry from 7.00 pm) and our local drummers.

Did you know that dancing 90 minutes a week can help reverse brain aging? The area in the brain linked to memory, emotion and learning is the hippocampus, and can increase in size by dancing. As this is the first area of the brain to be affected by Alzheimer’s, constant learning of new routines can decrease the risk of dementia, improve balance & memory, enhance your lifestyle and it is FREE. You are welcome to join us for Line Dancing every Wednesday at 9am in the Gheerulla Hall, no partner required.

That’s probably a wrap from me folks. Sorry this took a little longer than planned to keep you updated. I’ve been busy yogaing and line dancing and working on my touche.

Cheers!💪
